Where will I complete my hours? We are working with several community host sites in the areas of K-12 Education, Climate Action and Food Insecurity. Most positions will take place in the greater Fresno area.
Can I choose my own service site? No. Central Valley College Corps will identify placements in advance. We are in the process of finalizing these placements. During the application process, you will be able to view position descriptions for all placements and select your top choices.
Are there set hours for completing my service?Yes. However, this is dependent on each placement. The position descriptions (mentioned above) for each placement will indicate the required availability.

What is the Education Award? The fellow will become eligible for an Education Award of $3,000 upon completion of 450 hours of service. This award can be used to repay qualified students loans and to pay educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs. Please note that this award is not paid as a lump sum directly to the student. There are many different ways a student might take advantage of this award.

Non-Dreamers will earn the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. While Dreamers’ Education Award will be administered by the California Student Aid Commission.
How can I use my Education Award?Non-Dreamers should visit https://americorps.gov/members-volunteers/segal-americorps-education-award to learn more about the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, including details on how you can utilize the award.

Guidelines for the Education Award for Dreamers are still being finalized. We anticipate it working similarly to the Segal AmeriCorps Award (see above for link). We will update this answer when more information is provided by #CaliforniansForAll.
What happens to my Education Award if I don’t have any student loans and will be graduating in Spring 2023 with no plans to pursue additional schooling? For Non-Dreamers, the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be held for 7 years. If you do not have immediate qualifying expenses you want to utilize the award for, you can hold onto it for the future. This can be helpful if you decide to return to school for a certificate, credential, or other advanced degree.

It is our understanding that if you do not use your Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, you will lose the benefit. However, we are confirming this with our contacts and will update this answer as soon as possible.
